Rebel Track and Field Set for SEC Indoor Championships

OXFORD - The Ole Miss track and field team – featuring Ricky Robertson of Hernando in the high jump -- returns to action this weekend when the Rebels take part in the SEC Indoor Championships from the Randal Tyson Track Center on the campus of the University of Arkansas. 

Competition begins Friday afternoon at 1 p.m. with the heptathlon and concludes

Sunday at 4 p.m. with the men’s 4-x-400 meter relay. 

The Rebels feature several athletes on both the men’s and women’s team who are expected to score points.  Junior sprinter LaJada Baldwin ranks 11th in the nation in the 400 meters with an NCAA provisional top time of 53.36.  Baldwin also stands 19th in the NCAA in the 60 meters with a NCAA provisional mark of 7.38, while ranking 20th in the 200 meters with an NCAA provisional time of 23.82. 

Middle distance runner Sofie Persson ranks 11th in the country in the 800 meters after turning in an NCAA provisional time of 2:05.47 earlier this year at the Meyo Invitational.  The Rebel 4x400 meter relay team of Jasmine Dacus, Persson, Kristin

Bridges and Baldwin ranks 26th in the nation with an NCAA provisional time of

3:39.12. 

On the men’s side, sprinter Lee Ellis Moore ranks 28th in the country in the 400 meters with his top time of 47.26 set at the Meyo Invitational.  The men’s 4-x-400 meter relay team of Carson Blanks, Brian Knight, Matt Daniels and Moore rank 30th in the NCAA with a mark of 3:10.79.

In field events, Knight ranks first in the nation in the high jump after setting the school record at the Meyo Invitational with an NCAA automatic height of 7-04.25.  Freshman Ricky Robertson of Hernando is 20th in the high jump with his top height of 7-01.00. 

“We have worked extremely hard and I think we are ready for our best meet of the season,” Ole Miss head coach Joe Walker said.
