Ole Miss Heads to Florida for FAU Kickoff Classic

OXFORD - The Ole Miss Rebel softball team will travel to Boca Raton, Fla., this weekend FAU Kickoff Classic hosted by Florida Atlantic. The Rebels will face off against Maryland, Minnesota, Pittsburgh and the host Owls in the three-day tournament.

The Rebels, who posted a 3-2 record at the Kajikawa Classic last weekend in Tempe, Ariz., will take on Minnesota and Pittsburgh on Friday beginning at 10 a.m. Ole Miss will then square off against Maryland and host Florida Atlantic beginning at 3 p.m. on Saturday. Sunday's matchups will be determined by seeding.

Ole Miss knocked off Ohio, Oregon State and Portland State, while falling to Western Michigan and the host Sun Devils at the Kajikawa Classic.

Senior catcher Amber Tramp led the Rebel offense batting .778 for the tournament with a homer, three doubles and eight RBI in five games. She also set a career high with five RBI in the Rebels' game against Western Michigan. Shortstop Lauren Grill posted a .615 batting average during the three-day tournament with a team-high eight hits, two doubles and six RBI.

Minnesota enters the tournament after splitting its six games at the season-opening Metrodome Tournament last weekend. Florida Atlantic dropped its first four games of the season last weekend, while Maryland and Pitt will see their first action of the season this weekend.
