RiverKings Add Davis, Doherty
SOUTHAVEN --- The Mississippi RiverKings of the Central Hockey League (CHL) have announced the acquisition of two players to the roster, with the addition of Ken Davis and Tyler Doherty.?> Davis, 28, is a 6-4, 213-pound forward from Calgary, Alberta, Canada. He was a ninth-round selection of the Detroit Red Wings in the 1999 National Hockey League Entry Draft. Davis' hockey background includes five seasons of Canadian major junior hockey in the Western Hockey League. He played for the Portland Winterhawks, Medicine Hat Tigers and the Prince George Cougars over the five seasons in the WHL. Davis' best seasons were with Medicine Hat, where he scored 23 points in the 1999-2000 campaign, and netted 19 goals for 34 points the next year. Davis went from there to McGill University of Canada, where he played four seasons and scored 17 goals for 39 points in 78 appearances. According to his collegiate coach, Martin Raymond at McGill University, “Ken is a big forward who possesses a lot of offensive upside, with very quick hands and a great shot. He has been a member of championship teams at all levels, from midget through junior and university. Ken is also a great team player who will accept any role for the good of the whole group.” In the 1997-98 season Davis was a member of the Memorial Cup championship team (Canadian major junior national championship) with the Portland Winterhawks. He was also a co-captain of the Team Alberta Under-17 team at the World Under-17 tournament, where he tied for the tournament scoring title. RiverKings head coach and director of Hockey Operations Kevin “Killer” Kaminski noted, “Davis is a big power forward who will be good on the cycle and has a good set of hands to provide some offense. He will also bring a physical presence to his game.” Doherty, a 5-8, 170-pound forward from Banff, Alberta, Canada, played four seasons of Canadian collegiate hockey at Concordia University of Montreal, Quebec between 2003 and 2007 In 46 appearances with the Stingers he scored two goals for nine points and 52 penalty minutes. Kaminski looks to tap into Doherty's passionate play on the forward line. “Tyler will bring a great work ethic, speed and grit. He plays with his heart.” For RiverKings ticket information, call 662-342-1755 or go on-line to www.riverkings.com. |
