RiverKings Weekly Update
LAST WEEK?> Mississippi finished last week with a 3-1-0 record, dating back to last Sunday's game against the Wichita Thunder. The RiverKings begin this week with an overall record of 25-21-6 for 56 points and fourth place in the Central Hockey League's Northern Conference standings. The RiverKings are six points behind third place Bossier-Shreveport in the conference standings and are three points ahead of fifth place Tulsa.
GAME RECAPS Sunday, Feb. 14 - at Mississippi 4, Wichita 2 Glenn Detulleo, Darrell Stoddard and Ryan Held each scored a goal and added an assist as Mississippi stopped a seven-game winless streak with the victory at home on Valentine's Day. Newcomer Tyler Doherty also scored his first professional goal for the RiverKings, while Nathan Schwartzbauer added two assists. Tim Boron won his first game in the crease as a Mississippi goaltender, stopping 23-of-25 shots on goal against his former team. The win came despite being shutout in seven power play chances. Mississippi outshot the Thunder by a 40-25 margin.
Wednesday, Feb. 17 - RiverKings 5, at Wichita 2 Ryan Held and Matt Summers each scored a pair of goals in the start of a four-game road trip. Louis Dumont and Bobby Chaumont contributed a pair of assists. Tim Boron won his second straight game with a 16-save effort. The RiverKings scored three goals on the power play in six chances and again outshot the Thunder, this time by a 42-18 margin.
Friday, Feb. 19 - RiverKings 4, at Colorado 2 Mississippi opened a weekend set against the Eagles with their third straight victory in the current win streak and sixth straight regular season win over Colorado. Kevin Truelson scored a goal and added an assist, while Derek Landmesser assisted on two goals in the victory. Tim Boron claimed his third straight victory in the Mississippi crease with a 30-save performance. Mississippi scored twice on the power play in eight chances, but was outshot by Colorado by a 32-23 margin.
Saturday, Feb. 20 - at Colorado 6, RiverKings 3 Louis Dumont scored two goals and added an assist against the Eagles, but a three-game winning streak was stopped in a fracas-filled wrap-up to the regular season series. One of Dumont's goals came in a penalty shot awarded in the second period, Mississippi's first goal of the game. Dumont also scored a power play goal and Darrell Stoddard provided the other red-lighter for the RiverKings. Ryan Held added a pair of assists in the losing effort. A total of 117 penalty minutes were meted out between the two teams, including 49 against the RiverKings. Tim Boron was tagged with the loss, stopping five-of-nine shots he faced in the first period. Mark Sibbald came in to relieve Boron in the second period and stopped all 14 Colorado scoring attempts he faced. The RiverKings outshot Colorado by a 31-29 margin and scored once-in-eight power play chances.
THIS WEEK'S SCHEDULE Tuesday, Feb. 23 - Mississippi at Missouri (7:05 p.m. - WHBQ-AM) Mississippi has a 5-4-0 record against the first-year Mavericks, but are 0-3-0 in Missouri. Bobby Chaumont has six goals and 10 points against the Mavericks. Mark Sibbald is 2-1-0 in games against Missouri, while Tim Boron has a record of 0-1-0 in meetings with the Mavericks.
Friday, Feb. 26 - Wichita at RiverKings (7:05 p.m. - WHBQ-AM) Mississippi has a 4-1-1 mark against the Thunder, but is 1-1-1 at the DeSoto Civic Center. Ryan Held has scored six goals and has 11 points against Wichita. Tim Boron has a record of 2-0-1 in the crease for the RiverKings while Mark Sibbald is 1-0-0.
Saturday, Feb. 27 - Allen at RiverKings (7:05 p.m. - WHBQ-AM) The RiverKings have a 1-2-1 mark against the expansion-Americans entering the game and are 0-1-1 against Allen at the DeSoto Civic Center. Louis Dumont has three goals and seven points against the Americans. Tim Boron and Mark Sibbald are both 0-1-0 against Allen this season.
