It’s only fitting that the Olive Branch tennis team captured the inaugural Quistor Classic, held Feb. 27 at Olive Branch City Park. After all, Olive Branch was the host team and the tournament was played on the team’s home court.

Although he takes pride in Olive Branch’s 2-0 start, first-year head coach Blake Jones understands there are still a lot of obstacles ahead.

“We played hard and I’m proud of them,” Jones said, “but we’ve still got a lot of work to do.”

After defeating Lewisburg in the opening round, Olive Branch faced Hernando in the championship event. The Tigers qualified for the finals by downing Senatobia.

In the title match, Olive Branch claimed the boys’ singles, boys’ doubles no. 1, boys’ doubles no. 2 and mixed doubles, while Hernando took the girls’ singles, girls’ doubles no. 1 and girls’ doubles no. 2.

Olive Branch travels to Hernando for a rematch on March 1, then faces South Panola on March 2 and Center Hill on March 4.
