Memphis Football Training Camp Update

August 18, 2010

Tigers Go Through Two-A-Day Session Wednesday

MEMPHIS --- The Memphis Tigers had their third two-a-day session of fall training camp Wednesday at the Murphy Athletic Complex.  The squad was in pads in the morning and shells during the afternoon session.

Coach Larry Porter appeared pleased with the practice a day after the Tigers worked a 72-play scrimmage.

"It was a very competitive and high-spirited practice," said Porter.  "It is exactly what we needed based off of yesterday's scrimmage. I am excited about what I saw from this team in terms of the toughness and willing spirit.

"The guys were encouraging each other regardless of what the situation or the adversity was," added Porter.  "They were motivating each other and that was good to see.  Everybody raised their enthusiasm, and as a result we had a productive

practice."

Porter had spoken after several of the previous practices about needing to get some guys back out on the field in order to gain continuity.  He commented today about having Lance Smith, Jerrell Rhodes, DeRon Furr, Jeremy Longstreet of Olive Branch and Brad Paul back on the field.

"This was totally a team practice," said Porter.  Lance Smith and Jerrell Rhodes looked good. DeRon Furr, Jeremy Longstreet and Brad Paul had a presence out there.

It's all about the attitude.  Mentally, you have to come out there ready to fight through whatever it is that may exist that is keeping you from being productive.  You have to get beyond it, and as coaches, we have to recognize it and we have to attack it and we have to help these guys."

The Tigers will be back at it Thursday morning for a single session and then will

practice twice on Friday in preparation for another full-scale scrimmage slated for

Saturday.

"This afternoon practice and tomorrow's morning practice are the ones that, as coaches, we must force our kids to fight through and overcome any obstacles or adversity that they may face, the bumps and the bruises and mental aspect of it as well," explained Porter.
