Tigers Alter Schedule Thursday Because of Heat

August 12, 2010

MEMPHIS --- With the heat approaching triple digits Thursday afternoon, coach Larry Porter moved practice to later in the evening at the Murphy Athletic Complex.

Porter explained that he wanted to be able to get a full practice in on day four.

The squad was in shoulder pads and shorts for the second straight day as the temps were approaching 100 degrees with a heat index of 111 degrees even after 6 p.m. The Tigers worked about 16 periods and got some quality work out of the passing game.

"We got a lot of quality reps in the passing game," said Porter.  "We were able to work some third down situations.  I was very excited about how the quarterbacks responded because they were above the percentage mark in terms of what we want to accomplish on third down."

"We are starting to see these young receivers Kevin Wright, Reggie Travis and Delmon Robinson all starting to come of age in terms of the mental aspect of being able to execute the scheme," added Porter.  "There was some good in that area today."

The Tigers will have one more day of single practice before their first scheduled two-a-day session on Saturday.

Tiger Nation will have its first chance to meet and greet the 2010 Tigers at Football FanFest on Aug. 22, from 3-5 p.m., on the U of M campus.

The outdoor activities such as the bounce centers and face-painting will take place on Memorial Field outside of the Elma Roane Fieldhouse which is located on Zach Curlin Blvd. The autograph session will be held in the main gym of the Fieldhouse.
