'Bugs Beat Back RiverKings in Southaven
SOUTHAVEN --- The Mississippi RiverKings fell to the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs 6-1 in a Tuesday night clash between Central Hockey League rivals at the DeSoto Civic Center in Southaven on Feb. 9.?> Mississippi is now winless in its last five games (0-4-1) entering a Friday night contest in Tulsa against the Oilers.Bossier-Shreveport took a 1-0 lead late in the first period on a goal from Simon Mangos, whose wrist shot from the slot beat RiverKings goalie Mark Sibbald with 1:01 left in the period. The Mudbugs upped the lead to 4-1 in the second period on goals from David Rutherford, Joe Blaznek and Mangos, who scored his second goal of the night at 12:29 on the power play. Mississippi answered with a power play goal from Kevin Truelson, who netted his eighth of the season on a blast from inside the blue line. Truelson’s goal came after assists from Derek Landmesser and Louis Dumont with nine minutes gone in the second frame. Bossier-Shreveport added two goals in the third period on Mississippi goaltender Tim Boron, who replaced starting net minder Mark Sibbald after the fourth Mudbugs’ goal. Blaznek and Rutherford each scored their second goals of the game in the final period for the final 6-1 result. Mississippi was one-for-nine on the power play, while Bossier-Shreveport scored twice on the power play in four chances. The Mudbugs outshot the RiverKings in the game, 28-26. Sibbald saw his record fall to 5-3-0 with the loss, making 12 saves before being replaced by Boron, who stopped 10-of-12 in the crease. John DeCaro (15-10-1) made 25 saves in getting the victory for Bossier-Shreveport. With the loss, Mississippi remains in fourth place in the CHL Northern Conference with a 22-19-5 record, but is now three points behind the third place Mudbugs in the conference standings. Next home action for the RiverKings comes this Sunday afternoon against Wichita at 3:05 p.m. It’s Pink in the Rink night for the American Cancer Society and breast cancer awareness.
