RiverKings Golf Scramble Date Set

Golf outing benefitting Jr. StreetKings set for Sept. 30

July 7, 2010

SOUTHAVEN --- The Mississippi RiverKings of the Central Hockey League (CHL) have announced that the seventh annual Mississippi RiverKings Golf Scramble, presented by EMHC (Emergency Mobile Health Care), will be held on Sept. 30.

The tournament will be played at Ridgeway Country Club, located at 9800 Poplar Ave., in Memphis.

The golf event benefits the Jr. StreetKings youth roller hockey program, based at the Hernando Civic Center covered rink facility, and is directed by RiverKings team captain and veteran defenseman Derek Landmesser. It is the largest annual fundraiser for the Jr. StreetKings, which exists to give youngsters in the Mid-South an opportunity to be introduced to the world of hockey.

In addition to supporting the Jr. StreetKings, the golf tournament allows RiverKings supporters their first chance to meet members of this year's roster, in addition to Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Kevin “Killer” Kaminski, prior to the start of pre-season activities.

The Jr. StreetKings program, which holds spring and fall leagues and also holds in-line “Learn to Skate” and hockey skills programs during the summer, develops physical skills, self-confidence, sportsmanship and teamwork in a recreational setting. It's organized under the auspices of Hernando Youth Sports.

All proceeds from the golf event supplement the funding provided by the RiverKings and the Maddox Foundation of Hernando.

The four-person scramble will begin with a shotgun start at 1 p.m., on Sept. 30, following a registration and a lunch sponsored by King Cotton. At the conclusion of play, there will be dinner, an auction and raffle prizes presented, and an awards program.

Cost to play in the tournament will be $500 per four-person team or $125 per individual. A portion of the registration fee is tax-deductible and all entry fees will cover the cost of lunch, dinner and other items provided to each player.

Sponsorship fees must be paid for in advance of the tournament, with a deadline of Sept. 20.

Items are now being sought for a silent auction to be held during the tournament, which may include golf or other sports-related memorabilia, tickets to sporting or entertainment events, general and sports-related merchandise, or other specialty items.

Proceeds from the auction will also be earmarked to the Jr. StreetKings program.

Sponsorship opportunities are available for the event, including tee box sponsors, event tee-shirts, closest-to-pin prizes, beverage cart sponsorship, and a hole in one sponsor.

In addition, goodie bag items for each of the players are being sought, which may include golf merchandise, hats and clothing items, coupons, cash or merchandise cards. Items such as these are a great way to promote a business or service to the players who take part in the tournament.
