There are still slots available for players at the annual BancorpSouth 2+2 Scholarship Golf Tournament.

The tournament is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 9, at Cherokee Valley Golf Club, located at Goodman Road and Highway 78 in Olive Branch.  All proceeds from the tournament go to the 2+2 Scholarship Initiative, a joint effort between Northwest Mississippi Community College and The University of Mississippi, to raise funds for DeSoto County residents attending DeSoto Center.

The tournament will be in a scramble format, with shotgun starts at 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. The fee to participate is $100 per person and $400 per team.

The entry fee includes green and cart fees, goodie bag, beverages, breakfast, lunch and dinner. Make checks payable to 2+2 Scholarship Golf Tournament or provide credit card information. Payment must accompany entry form and be mailed to NWCC Foundation Office, P. O. Drawer 7015, 4975 Hwy. 51 North, Senatobia, MS 38668.

Breakfast will be provided by State Rep. Tommy Woods, with lunch donated by DeSoto County Lenny’s Sub Shops. Barbecue will be provided by The Rendezvous. Mulligans and red tees are $10 each.

There are first, second and third place prizes available. A $5,000 putting contest, closest to the pin and longest drive contest will also be held. If unable to complete play due to weather, all prizes will be awarded by random drawing.

There will be a special live auction for a one-week stay in an exclusive condo in Destin, Fla., donated by Bill and Donna Arkell, along with a silent auction for other prizes.

The goal of the annual golf tournament is to raise $1 million to be shared in two endowments—$250,000 to provide scholarships for the freshman and sophomore years at Northwest and $750,000 to complete the junior and senior years through The University of Mississippi, all at the DeSoto Center.

All proceeds go to The University of Mississippi Foundation and Northwest Mississippi Community College Foundation. For more information on the tournament, contact organizer Debra Herrington at (662) 893-2878.
