Northwest Offers Continuing Education Unit Classes in September

A variety of courses scheduled to begin in September at Northwest Mississippi Community College will offer Continuing Education Credits (CEUs), according to

Continuing Education coordinator Pam Wooten.

All of the classes will be held on the main campus in Senatobia.

Spanish for Elementary Teachers (2 CEUs) will be offered Tuesdays, Sept. 7-Nov. 2, from 4-6:30 p.m., in Physical Science addition building. The instructor for this class is Wendy Gregory. There is a $105 fee, with the book included. The deadline to register is Tuesday, Aug. 31.

This class is designed to introduce basic conversational Spanish to elementary teachers. Pronunciation and grammar will be emphasized, and a variety of group activities will be used to facilitate learning. During the final class meeting the group will dine at a local Mexican restaurant and be required to order their meal in Spanish.

Basic Computers/Using Windows 7 (1.5 CEUs) will be offered Mondays, Sept. 13-Nov. 8, from 6-8 p.m. in the Berry Building, Workforce Lab 104. Helen Williamson will serve as instructor for this class, which costs $105 with book included. The registration deadline is Friday, Sept. 3.

This class is designed for adults who have little or no previous computer experience. General computer use and terminology will be discussed as participants learn basic computer skills using Windows 7.

Gregory will also serve as instructor for Spanish for Educators (3 CEUs). The class will be offered on Mondays, Sept. 13-Dec. 6, from 4-6:30 p.m. in Physical Science addition building. The fee for this class is $105 with the book included. The registration deadline is Friday, Sept. 3.

This class is designed to introduce basic conversational Spanish to educators. It will be packed full of “survival Spanish” for the school setting. Pronunciation and grammar will be emphasized, and a variety of group activities will be used to facilitate learning.

Photoshop Elements 8 (1.5 CEUs) will be offered Tuesdays, Sept. 14-Nov. 9, from 6-8 p.m. in the Berry Building, Workforce Lab 104. Williamson will serve as instructor for this class.

There is a $105 fee with the book included. The registration deadline is Tuesday, Sept. 7.

Students will learn to enhance photos by editing, cropping and color correction.

Participants will also learn how to combine photos and create a collage; add special

effects to photo; correct photos that are scratched, torn or show too many wrinkles; and how to organize and burn pictures to a CD for future use.

Photoshop Elements 8 will also be offered at Batesville Enterprise Center in Batesville. The class will be held Thursdays, Sept. 16-Nov. 4, from 6-8 p.m.

The fee for the class is $105 ($90 class fee and $15 book fee). The deadline to register for this class is Wednesday, Sept. 8.

Williamson will also teach Microsoft Excel (1.5 CEUs). The class will be offered Wednesday, Sept. 15-Nov. 3, from 6-8 p.m. in Berry Building, Workforce Lab 104.

There is a $105 fee with the book included. The deadline to register for this class is Wednesday, Sept. 8.

Using Microsoft Excel 2007, students taking this class will learn to organize and analyze numeric data, write formulas and use formatting commands to develop well-designed worksheets.
