Political Parties Remain Divided on Same-Sex Marriages

 

 

Majority of all parties believe same-sex marriages will be legal in 20 years

 

Flemington, NJ, August 13, 2010 – Results from a new national media study among 1,007 self-reported Democrats, Republicans and Independents revealed that political parties remain divided in their support for same-sex marriages with 68 percent of Democrats, 20 percent of Republicans and 52 percent of Independents indicating that they are in favor of same-sex marriages.

The study was conducted by HCD Research using its MediaCurves.com® website on Aug. 13, to obtain viewers’ perceptions of a recent ad by Truth and Hope in support of same-sex marriages. To view detailed results go to www.mediacurves.com.

Furthermore, the majority of all parties reported that churches should have the right to deny marriage ceremonies to same-sex couples with 61 percent of Democrats, 90 percent of Republicans and 68 percent of Independents reporting that churches should have the option of denying same-sex marriage ceremonies. The majority of all parties also indicated that same-sex marriages will be universally legal in the United States in 20 years.
