The Mississippi Gulf Coast depends in large part on the Tourism industry for much of its economic base. The rest of the state enjoys the benefits of its sales tax collections. The Florida tourism industry IS the state's economy. (By the way, the e-mail I sent yesterday was from a tent on Sugarloaf Key (30 miles north of Key West) with the Gulf of Mexico 30 yards or less to the west and the Atlantic about 50 to the east with my cell phone used as a modem. What a time we live in!) I posted this blog on my Clarion Ledger Political blogsite---for what it's worth. A Simple Question www.clarionledger.com/apps/pbcs.dll/section?category=PluckPersona&U=f3e7c134c1d2492a8c8d9f83474703f3&plckPersonaPage=BlogViewPost&plckUserId=f3e7c134c1d2492a8c8d9f83474703f3&plckPostId=Blog%3af3e7c134c1d2492a8c8d9f83474703f3Post%3a2992807a-8bf6-4325-a90d-eb20619877ab&plckController=PersonaBlog&plckScript=personaScript&plckElementId=personaDest Posted 5/21/2010 4:06 PM CDT on www.clarionledger.com. I am in Florida on a road trip adventure with my 13-year-old grandson. We've been camping and have been to Key West and Miami Beach. While checking in at one of the campsites, the Park Ranger took a call. I could tell it was a person inquiring about the oil spill. When she hung up, I let her know we did not have a reservation, but did she have a campsite? "We do now." She replied. "We've been getting cancellations for the last week." She went on about the oil spill and how it is impacting Florida's economy already. Question: Will Governor Barbour be as enthusiastic in joining Florida to sue BP to recover ALL of the taxpayer's money spent on this spill as he was in joining Florida in suing the Federal Government to "save" taxpayers' money by denying people a means for affording healthcare? Perhaps he can start the ball rolling and Florida, Louisiana, and Alabama can join us. There's no need waiting...given time all things will be forgotten. |
