Oil Spill Worry
May 20, 2010
?> By John Mayo (D., DeSoto County) Mississippi House of Representatives
Trey and I have made it to MY goal of the last 40 or so years...Go to the Southern-most point in the US, snap a picture. Unfortunately, the person I gave my phone to took a BLANK picture...Fortunately the person I gave the camera to took a couple good pics and I bore you with one. But, the purpose of this email...when we checked into the state park to get a tent place, the ranger said, "No problem. We've been getting nothing but cancellations the the last several days. In fact while I was registering she was on the phone with someone inquiring about the spill and she gave that person the number of the Joint Command Center to track the oil. If BP thought it had problems with Mississippi and Florida...wait until the Floridians sink their collective teeth into them. I am keeping up with the daily briefings...quite frankly, it's difficult to know who to trust. I think when I had my hearing a couple weeks ago, I found trust in three crusty Coast Guardsmen who had little hair to comb and did not appear to take any BS from anyone, including us. I asked who would be at the top of the food chain in the investigation and they answered with three agencies, BP was one, the Mining Minerals Agency was the other...I wouldn't trust one, would suspect the other, and the Coast Guard was third. I asked, "But, who is at the top of those three." "The Coast Guard...normally." answered a Master Chief. "I hope so," I replied. It does not look good for someone. Already 19 percent and growing of the fishing grounds are off limits to fisherman in the Gulf. The picture, I remember to send to all my lists is, "The End of the World, as we know it." |
