U of M Dirt Diggers

University of Mississippi Archaeologists

I took three of the older grandchildren this morning to take part in an Indian village archaeological dig.  Supervised by John Connaway, a state archaeologist with the Department of History and Archives, the "lead" university on this dig is the University of Mississippi and its under and graduate students in that field.

Today, the Mississippi Amateur Archaeological Society (I may have the name wrong) joined in the dig.  Twenty-five strong where we were at, people came not only from Mississippi, but we met people from Texas, Miami and Alabama, and I am certain other states.

We met one recent graduate of Texas A & M in the field who listed three prestigious universities she was looking at; but, her plans are now to enroll at the University of Mississippi.

"I hear of a number of bright persons graduating from the program," she said. "And, from what I am learning the university is gaining a reputation in the archaeological field.  I thought I'd give them a look during this dig and enroll in the fall."

Kudos to the University of Mississippi.
