Defense Spending

August 25, 2010

By John Mayo (D., DeSoto County)

Mississippi House of Representatives

Google defense spending last five years.  You'll come up with some interesting numbers.

First, if I have not said it, I will here.  President Bush's AND President Obama's stimulus and bailout packages scared and continue to scare the bejezzus out of me.  How in the Lord's name are we going to pay for this?  We will never know what our present and future would look like if President's Bush AND Obama had done nothing.

That's the problem with looking at future outcomes of present decisions.

I am, quite frankly, very scared of our future.  And, the future will determine if we did anything right and all the prognosticators aside, no one knows for sure what the last year or next would have looked like if either man did nothing.

Onto defense spending.  This site is an excellent analysis of past and future defense spending, but as to the Governor's assertion that the Obama administration is blocking or spending less on defense and security...

President Bush spent $4.65 trillion in his eight year term.  President Obama is on track to spend $5 trillion and that includes a closing out of two wars.

Here's the site  www.comw.org/pda/1002BudgetSurge.html

Between the banks, speculators, federal and state politicians, scammers, fraudulent Medicaid providers, fraudulent medicaid patients, etc., etc., etc., there is more than enough blame to be spread around that we don't have to blame someone for something he is not doing.
