OBPD Crime Watch Notes Reported Wednesday, Aug. 18?>
12539 - False Pretense (Scam) - 7300 Block of Kingcrest - 8:25 a.m. A 48-year-old male stated that his 76-year-old father had received a phone call stating that he had won a large cash prize and would need to send a money order in order to claim the prize. The son was able to stop his elderly father from wiring the money.
12578 - Uttering Forgery (or counterfeit instrument) - Bancorp South, 6955 Hwy. 302 - 9 a.m. A bank employee reported that a customer deposited a fraudulent counterfeit cashier's check into his checking account and then withdrew the money.
12603 - False Pretenses - 4700 Block of Marquette Place - 3:07 p.m. A 72-year-old homeowner reported that a roofing company that identified itself as American Shingle Company cashed his insurance check for $3750 to repair his roof from store damage. That was around July 10. They have not shown up to do the work and he was told now that they are out of business.
12617 - Petit Larceny - Mark Gilbert Dentistry @ 6889 Hwy. 305 - 6:31 p.m. A 51-year-old victim reported that his catalytic converter was cut off from under his Toyota pickup truck while he was at work. A white van with green lettering on it had been seen near the pick up at about 1:45 p.m. by a witness in the business complex.
12620 - Petit Larceny - Target Store @ 5150 Goodman Rd. - 6:46 p.m. A 50-year-old victim reported that her catalytic converter was stolen from under her Toyota Tacoma pickup while she was at work. She believes the theft happened around 3 p.m.
12623 - Burglary of a Dwelling - 6000 Block of Brooks Cove -7:46 p.m. A 46-year-old homeowner reported the burglary of her home. There were no signs of forced entry. It was discovered that a 32-inch flat screen TV and an Xbox game system were stolen.
OBPD officers also made arrests for Suspended Driver’s License (three), No Proof of Insurance (four) and Public Drunk (one).
