Six Arrested for Staging Accident in Alleged Insurance Scam

Jackson- Six Panola County residents have been indicted and arrested for their alleged involvement in staging a car accident in Lafayette County for the purpose of collecting insurance money, Attorney General Jim Hood announced today.

The incident took place in August of 2008 and involved two vehicles and several minors that were not charged in the case.

The following participants have recently been indicted, arrested and charged with a single felony count of Attempted Insurance Fraud:

 

Earnest Jackson, 29, Sardis;

Pamala Johnson, 40, Batesville;

Clint Jones 44, Sardis;

Lisa Jones, 36, Sardis;

Jason Morgan, 31, Sardis;

Betty Shorter, 39, Sardis.

 

The defendants faces up to three years in prison and $5,000 in fines as well as double the investigative costs incurred by the state.

The National Insurance Crime Bureau, Panola County Sheriff’s Office, U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force, and the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office aided investigators of the Public Integrity Division of the Attorney General's Office in making the arrest.

As with all cases, the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
