OBHS Celebrates National DECA Week

It was a time for every member to showcase their ‘DECA Spirit’ as National DECA Week was celebrated Oct. 12-16 at Olive Branch High School. Every DECA chapter in the United States, the Philippines, Guam, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands and Germany celebrated the week in their own way.

National DECA Week is not only about celebrating DECA, but it’s about giving back to the community. The Olive Branch Humane Society was the recipient of this year’s community outreach campaign.

The OBHS DECA chapter organized a successful pet food drive competition between the classes. The class of 2010 was the winner with 93 items. Combining all of the classes together, the chapter collected a total of 119 items.

Although Fall Break interfered with Monday and Tuesday activities, the remainder of the week was fun-filled. On Wednesday all Fall Leadership Conference (FLC) attendees were encouraged to wear their FLC shirts and everyone participated in the campus clean-up.

Thursday was the ‘Professional Dress Day.’ The DECA officers proudly wore their DECA blazers on this day. Also, Zaxby’s sponsored an appreciation luncheon for the administrators.  On Friday the seniors took all of the supplies collected to the Humane Society.

In addition to the National DECA festivities’, the Olive Branch Chamber of Commerce conducted its monthly luncheon on Oct. 14 at Whispering Woods Hotel & Conference Center. Ross Bratton, 2009-2010 DECA president, and Clint Reeves, October’s Student of the Month, represented the chapter. Bratton manned a booth to discuss and explain DECA to all inquiring minds. Reeves received a student of the month certificate from the chamber.
