Northwest Mississippi Community College freshman Haley White of Senatobia was named “Most Beautiful” at Northwest’s annual Beauty Review on Nov. 17. The 18-year-old cosmetology major is the daughter of Wesley White and Margie Casey. White was one of 38 contestants vying for the title.

White is no stranger to pageants. She competed in her first pageant at the age of four and again her senior year at Senatobia High School.

She entered the Northwest Beauty Review because she thought it would be “a fun experience and a great addition to my many college memories,” she observed. “I was shocked when my name was announced. I was shaking so bad I thought I was going to fall of the stage. I am extremely overjoyed and honored.”

The most memorable thing about Beauty Review for White was the reaction from her family, she said.

“They were so proud of me,” White recalled. “It made me really happy to see everyone else so happy. When they announced my name I heard my mom yell over everyone, ‘She won it!’ I cracked up on stage.”

White said her biggest inspiration is her family.

“I have been blessed with some of the best sisters, aunts (and) grandmothers, and the best mom in the world,” White said. “They are all always there for me whenever I need anything at all. They all lend me their wisdom and advice when I need it, and without all of these women I think I would be lost.”

After Northwest, White plans to work at La Mystique Beauty Salon in Oxford.

“Doing hair is what I love,” she said.

White advises young girls to always believe in themselves.

“Never give up on your dreams; anything is possible,” White noted. “I want every girl to know that she is beautiful, and that she doesn't need a judge to tell her that.”

Meagen Hill of Senatobia, an 18-year-old freshman general college major, was chosen first runner-up. Hill is the daughter of Dudley Hill and Amanda Perner. Chosen as second runner-up was Mandy Mason of Olive Branch, a 19-year-old sophomore nursing major. She is the daughter of Luka Newsom.

Third runner-up was Latham James, a 20-year-old nursing major from Tunica. James is the daughter of Ron James and Angela Morris. Winning fourth runner-up was Katie Roach, 19, of Oxford. Roach is a freshman majoring in nursing. She is the daughter of Lawrence and Reena Roach.

D’Layne Smith, a retired faculty member, was the mistress of ceremonies for the evening, and entertainment was provided by Emma May and Craig & Addy King. Escorts were Alex Barham and Seth Wooten, both of Independence. The pageant was coordinated by Pam Wooten, Northwest activities manager.

Most Beautiful and the Beauties will be featured in the 2010 "Rocketeer," the Northwest yearbook.
