Northwest Honors 2010 Hall of Fame

Ten students have been inducted into the Northwest Mississippi Community College Hall of Fame. They were introduced to the college’s Board of Trustees at the regular meeting on Feb. 11 on the Senatobia campus. Hall of Fame inductees from the Senatobia campus include Annah Bailey, Laina Collier, Jonathan Fix and Anna Lorraine Mullinaux. Those chosen from Lafayette Yalobusha Technical Center are Jill K. Schmidt and Teresa Anne Pass. Included from DeSoto Center are Christopher Adam Bennett, Shannon Marie Daniel, Holly Hale Koonce and Brian Matthew Burgess. "Election to the Hall of Fame is the highest honor that a Northwest student can receive," said Dr. Marilyn Bateman, academic dean. "This year's group of students is one of the finest ever. These students not only excel in the classroom, but also provide leadership by their participation in college activities. Students of this caliber are our society's hope for a brighter future." Bailey, a secondary education major from Pope, is a member of the Future Educators of America, Mu Alpha Theta Math Society, Phi Theta Kappa, Northwest Concert Band, the Ranger Marching Band and the Baptist Student Union. Bailey is on the Who's Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities list and is on the President's list. She said her goal for the future is to “teach at Pope Junior High and be the next Meg Woods." Collier is a business administration major from Oxford. She is a member of the Paralegal Club, Phi Theta Kappa and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Collier is on both the Who's Who list and the President's list. She was also selected Rotary Student of the Month. Collier is a member of the Lady Ranger softball team. Fix, a liberal arts major from Cordova, Tenn., is secretary of leadership in Phi Theta Kappa and is a member of the Spanish Club, Northwest Concert Band, Northwest Jazz Band, the Ranger Marching Band and the Baptist Student Union. He is a Student Recruiter and is on the President's list. He plans to become a Bible translator. Mullinaux, a music education major from Olive Branch, is a member of the Northwest Concert Band, Northwest Singers, Northwest Steel Band, Northwest Percussion Ensemble and the Ranger Marching Band. She has also participated in theatre productions. Mullinaux is a member of Phi Theta Kappa and the Sinfonia Sweetheart of Lambda Rho Chapter of Phi Mu Alpha. She is on the President's list. She said she plans to become "a music theory instructor Like Dr. Saundra Bishop." Schmidt is a business administration major from Oxford. She is a member of Phi Theta Kappa and is on the Who's Who list. Schmidt hopes to become an active part of the travel/tourism industry and to manage an upscale hotel or resort. Pass, a business administration major from Water Valley, is a member of Phi Theta Kappa. According to Pass, her goal is to obtain a bachelor's degree in business administration to have a better opportunity to advance in her current employment. Bennett is a business administration major from Southaven. He is a member of Phi Theta Kappa and is on the DeSoto Center Appeals Committee. He is also on the President's list. Daniel from Olive Branch is majoring in accountancy. She is a member of Phi Theta Kappa and is on the President's list. Daniel was named the Outstanding Student for Accountancy. Koonce, a medical office technology major from Nesbit, is a member of Phi Theta Kappa and is on the President's list. Koonce was named the Outstanding Students for Medical Office Technology. Aviation maintenance technology major Burgess is on the President's list and was named the Outstanding Student for aviation maintenance technology at DeSoto Center-Olive Branch. He is from Olive Branch. The 10 students will be showcased in the college yearbook, “The Rocketeer.” |
