Dr. John Green | Dr. Albert Nylander |
CLEVELAND - Dr. Albert Nylander, Delta State University's dean of Graduate and Continuing Studies, announced July 23 that the graduate office has been awarded $100,000 by the Robert M. Hearin Foundation to support 10 graduate students in masters programs in community development, business administration and counselor education. These funds will be used to provide Hearin Scholars fellowships (tuition and stipends) for outstanding graduate students in financial need who undertake full-time study for the master of science in community development, master in business administration or master of education in counseling. Delta State will use $100,000 to provide each of the 10 Hearin Scholars (1) a 10-month stipend totaling $5,000; and (2) $5,000 for each fellow's tuition annually. According to Nylander, "A focus for these Hearin Scholars will be on graduate research." This cohort program will be led by Dr. John Green, director of the Institute for Community-Based Research. Green will meet monthly throughout the academic year with the Hearin Scholars to discuss their research projects. "Through mentoring, research funding and scholarly events," Green said, "This program will encourage and support graduate students to make the most of their graduate experience." Priority is given to recruiting students who have a 3.25 grade-point-average and who desire to live and work in Mississippi, preferably the Mississippi Delta Region. Interested students must have a bachelor's degree in a discipline related to one of the respective graduate programs and these students must first be admitted by the graduate faculty and coordinators in the respective departments. Inquires should be directed as soon as possible by calling Nylander at 662-846-4700 or e-mail nylander@deltastate.edu. (Courtesy photos)?>
