About Us

WELCOME TO THE DeSOTO OBSERVER

The strength of any community lies in its desire and ability to be informed. A strong community knows local leadership, government and

schools. It knows where to go with complaints, who to talk to about ideas. It also knows who is educating its children and how efficient police

and fire should be. It knows how to use its voice.

Olive Branch is a community caught in a media shuffle. Without our own weekly newspaper, TV station or local news/sports talk radio station,

Olive Branch residents have no voice.

To fix this problem, we offer you the DeSoto Observer, a web newspaper, with future podcasts, dedicated to the citizens and community of

Olive Branch. We offer you coverage of government, sports, education, religion, politics and people.

We have launched the first edition and our experience as journalists will steer our work and our instincts. But to make it wholly an Olive Branch

voice, we offer to residents and potential readers a chance to contribute to their own web paper.

Please feel free to make suggestions, offer assistance or request a feature or story to appear in the Observer. You can do that at

news@desotoobserver.com.

Our leadership is a strong one and includes former DeSoto County Tribune reporter, sportswriter and photographer Jamie Mercer and his deep

knowledge of the news and sports as well as the citizens of Olive Branch and their history and families. It also includes Larry Hudson, former

editor of The Tribune who adopted Olive Branch as his own almost 10 years ago.

We are very excited about the Observer and we hope you welcome us into your homes. Any success we have lies in our ability to work hard and

serve Olive Branch. It will be your paper in many ways. Our mission is total dedication, top to bottom, to the residents of Olive Branch, focusing

on the community and their interests, families, religion and all activities.
